Jim Spellos teaches business audiences what generative AI actually does — and what it doesn't.

He is President of Meeting U., whose mission for more than 25 years has been to help people become more productive and more comfortable with technology. That work now centers almost entirely on generative AI: what it's genuinely good at, where it fails, and how people without a technical background can put it to work.

Recognitions:

• In 2025, Smart Meetings magazine gave Jim their Smart Speaker award.

• In 2024, Meetings Today named him a meeting industry trendsetter for his "AI Education with Integrity" commitment.

• In 2022, Meeting Professionals International included him on their most influential list in the hospitality industry for their 50th anniversary.

• In 2021, Glisser named him one of the most influential people in virtual events.

• Meetings Today first named him a trendsetter in 2015.

Teaching:

Jim was a faculty member at New York University for 25 years, where he received both the Award for Teaching Excellence and the Outstanding Service Award.

Beyond the stage Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Rock and Wrap It Up, an anti-poverty and anti-hunger organization that recovers excess food from films, television productions, concerts, sports and other events. He co-created their Whole Earth Calculator app and speaks about food recovery and sustainability to groups around the country. BizBash named him one of their top 500 people in events for that work in 2018 and 2019.

He is also a musician and songwriter, and released his first solo album, Stroke of Genius, in 2020.
